You might be aware or not that a whole life is going on inside your head that you don´t express in words.
This life can be lived in dreams and in inner dialogue.
I don´t understand what happens exactly when we dream or that dreams are related to a life awake, I do understand the relation between the metaphors we use and our inner dialogue.
For example, when laziness keeps us from doing something we could and should do, we talk to our selves in our head. I might say to myself : come on you lazy cow, get off your big butt for once and do something. Used to be quite a common thing for me to say. If I perceive myself as a lazy cow and want to get the cow off her butt, I am in trouble. The lazy cow I am talking to will not get up and do something, in stead it will just look at me with big cow eyes and boooo to me.
Change the way I talk to myself into a more motivating set of words, like: come on you pretty girl, "just do it" and think of the goddess called Nike. She was the Greek goddess of victory. I assume we are all familiar with the Nike slogan?
Try to notice the way you talk to your self when you make mistakes or anything else you beat your self up about.
Change this beating up into something more help full. Motivating, caring, encouraging, sweet, or kind dialogues will have the same level of inlfuence on your mood as critizising words would have.
Most of us have yet to develope the habit of motivational inner dialogue. First step would be, to become aware of the beating your self up habit. Once you realize that, you can change it.
